MEET MINDFUL MEN
Our Flagship Population Service
Free Leadership believes that many men comprise a vulnerable population. We argued with advisors about this, the IRS about this, and our friends about this: empowering men serves the public good.
Mindful Men is not a men’s group. It is a leadership group for men. While other groups focus on emotional well being or healing or performance, we emphasize improving skills in relational, emotionally intelligent leadership. Our mission is to improve men’s discipline and motivation to consciously support, care for and improve the well-being of others around them. We call those people leaders.
Our monthly free meet up groups are co-ed lead, exemplifying our values of diversity, discipline, intentionality and humanity. The facilitators are comprised of a least 1 certified expert in leadership, mentoring or coaching as well as a local citizen committed to personal development.
The National Institute of Health and other well established community health research findings continuously indicate that men are less likely to access, and also to benefit from, mental health and/or counseling services. Initial research suggests that role models and friends are one of the key interventions that improve men’s help-seeking attitudes, intentions, and actual actions. These peer figures often convey accurate information and key psychoeducational material, and often motivate men to persist in behavior change efforts and build on positive “male” traits (e.g., responsibility, direction and strength). Our Mindful Men Mentoring Certification Program educates men in the community with the knowledge, tools and skills to become this type of mentor and friend to their peers, neighbors and possible clients.
Mindful Men has a free meet up every first Monday of the month (that’s a mouthful!).
Free Monthly Meet up
Every 1st Monday evening of the month, Grassroots Kava House St Pete hosts a community gathering for consciously minded men. Join us 7-9 pm Upstairs. Primarily, it’s a curated social time, with a little dose of relational performance psychology. Come to share your resources, meet like-minded peers, and deepen your leadership skills.
No need to register. Just show up.
Mentoring Certification
Each year, Six Men become credentialed in 1) mental health first aid 2) facilitating a high impact Check In 3) how to raise the personal awareness of others 4) how to name, talk about and respond to feelings 5) how to guide others to identify and take responsible action towards their intentions, especially when they are different from those the mentor himself would choose and 6) how to effectively mediate during conflict and 7) how to improve honesty and connection in intimate relationship. This program is completed in a cohort, further catalyzing our social capital.
We still have one more spot for 2024.
